What to Expect from Your Checkup and Cleaning
When you visit Accord Dental for a checkup and cleaning, we will begin by reviewing records from your previous visits. If it has been awhile since we’ve taken X-rays of your teeth, your visit may begin with this procedure. The most common X-rays are bite wings, which are X-rays of the teeth used to identify cavities. If necessary,Panoramic X-rays will be takent to provide Dr. Ayyubi a view of your entire facial structure.
Dr. Ayyubi’s Exam
After your X-rays taken, Dr. Ayyubi will come in and review your X-rays if you had them, and perform a comprehensive oral exam and periodontal screening. Using an explorer tool and small mirror, he will inspect your teeth and gums for indications of decay, gingivitis, gum disease, bruxism, and other problems.
Once he’s concluded the exam, he’ll discuss his findings with you. If you have a clean bill of health, you’ll be free to book your next 6-month checkup and cleaning. If you need fillings, crowns, or other treatments, Dr. Ayyubi will discuss a treatment plan with you, and depending on your and Dr Ayyubi’s schedule, he will start treatment on the same day or you’ll return at a later date to begin treatment.
After exam and consultaion with Dr. Ayyubi, you’ll relax in the dental chair as Dr. Ayyubi cleans your teeth and our experienced RDA will polish your teeth later on. He’ll use a combination of handheld instruments and an ultrasonic scaler that uses the power of vibrations to dislodge the most stubborn plaque and tartar buildup from your teeth and gums. Last but not least, many patients’ cleanings conclude with a fluoride treatment and/or application of dental sealants.
